Do I need to be physically in Nevada during an online notary session?

You don’t need to be in Nevada to do an electronic notary session with us. It doesn’t matter where you are in the world because the online notarization “virtually” takes place at the notary’s location.

Accepted Documents

Nearly all documents can be notarized electronically.  However, certain documents are restricted. These documents should either not be notarized on the platform or should be notarized only in certain circumstances. Exceptions for each document are noted.

Restricted Documents
Documents intended for use outside of the United States, including documents that are being submitted to a foreign embassy.

Certified copies of certain official documents, we are prohibited from certifying copies of birth, marriage or death certificates.

Marriages, we are prohibited from performing marriage ceremonies remotely.

 
Documents that appear tampered, our notaries may suspect fraud or other illegal activity when asked to notarize documents that appear to have been tampered with (cross-outs, white-outs, cut and paste, etc.). Notaries hold the right to refuse to notarize these documents.

Documents in which the Notary Is named or has a beneficial interest, we are prohibited from notarizing these documents.

Identity Authentication

There are three steps for identity authentication for an electronic notary
Knowledge-Based Authentication
Knowledge-Based Authentication is a process that requires the customer to answer questions to demonstrate knowledge that only the individual would know about their private life to prove their identity.  Knowledge-Based Authentication occurs prior to connecting for the notary.  
Credential Analysis
 
Credential Analysis is an automated process that analyzes a valid, government-issued ID and verifies its authenticity.

Notary Review

After the Knowledge-Based Authentication and Credential Analysis are complete, our notary will then perform a final validation to confirm the individual on video matches the ID image.

What do I need?

A valid government-issue photo ID (US Citizens can use their state-issued identification card or US Passport.  Non-US citizens or residents must have their international passports.

You need an electronic device that has video and audio capabilities.  This can be a computer with a web camera or a mobile device.

You will also need your document electronically (pdf format) for upload.
